The herd was established in 1982 after Chris had taken over the beef cattle enterprise from his father, on his return from Cedara Agricultural College.

  • Chris and Sally were looking for Red Angus bulls and couldn’t find any to purchase. There was a gap in the market and so it was decided to breed them and thus VJ Angus was born.
  • Chris has been heavily involved in the Angus Breed Society in South Africa – having served on its council for 25 years, including 2 terms as president.
  • They have visited 17 different countries on VJ Angus business and Chris chaired the World Angus Secretariat in 1995 and again in 2005.
  • He has judged Angus cattle in Zimbabwe, Brazil and Australia
  • Recently judged the SA National Championships.
  •  Chris was also involved in the establishment of the SA Certified Angus Beef programme and is a firm believer in that scheme.

Glenfinlas is set in a magnificant valley, blessed with good water and good grazing – particular during the summer – between Cathcart and Fort Beaufort.

The beautiful indigenous forests and mountains of Hogsback are a short drive away.

The couple have two children who are both based in Cape Town at the moment. Tessa, 26, is involved in the food industry and is a social media journalist and Charles, 23, coaches and plays rugby full time.
